After the wipe, greens were layered over the warm colors to define shadows on the form. Pink became the major highlight and a cool blue became the lightest value on the pink highlight. These two colors are layered over a violet that is the ground for the form. The addition of the violet background on the left was so that the form emerges from the same plane as the violet ground in the face. This gives the form a figure/ground (positive/negative) tension, though the form is very dimensional. On the left side of the face an olive yellow in close value to the violet ground was added. The olive is warm but contains enough green that it relates to the darker green shadows.
