25 Piece Tropical
Set |

| I have certainly been influenced by my surroundings since moving to Florida. (See my Thunderstorm Grey Set) I realized pretty quickly that the greens that I was making in Upstate New York were not the same ones I was seeing now. Those were the first colors I started working with. After a bit I came to see the real substance behind the colors. As the colors lightened they got warmer- or held their warmth. If you use white to lighten colors they will get cooler (ie. bluer). Suddenly this started to make sense and this group of colors came together. | ||

710-714: This group starts with a Phthalo Green and then mixes with Yellow to make some very bright powerful colors. It creates a glow for colors that are worked over them in a painting and as a strong highlight for the finishing touches.

730-734:I've been trying to make a nice warm Red for the longest time. When I started thinking about this set it all came together. The paler tints stay pink without turning coral. For the set I just use the first three.

740-743: These colors came about with the discovery of some new pigments. I started using some transparent red and yellow oxides. These allowed me to make bright colors but with a touch of earthiness to them that were perfect for this set.

750-753: What would the tropics be without fuscia? My problem was finding the right amount of blueness to the pink to keep it vibrant. The darker shades of this color make wonderful shadows that have a warmth to them while still being quite dark.

630-634: Even the bluish greens are warm. This turquoise is on the warm green side of the color.
